Continuation of Commands

Materials

- Supply tray
- A box of red circles
- A container marked with the red verb symbol and Verb Box 3 containing cards on which are printed a double command having no object.
- A container with the red verb symbol and Verb Box 4 containing cards on which are printed a double command, one having an objects.
- A container marked with the verb symbol and Verb Box 5 containing cards on which are printed a double command, both commands having an object.

Presentation 1: Two actions with no objects

Material

- Supply tray
- Grammar symbols
- Verb Box 3

Presentation

Written Slips

  1. Write two actions on a slip of paper, have a child read it, and then act it out.
  2. Repeat for each child.
  3. Then go back to the first child, have them read their card again, and then have them mark the action words with the correct symbols.
  4. Repeat for each child.

  5. Cut the action words and switch their places.

  6. Have each child read this new phrase and see if it makes sense.
  7. Bring attention to how we can change the order and it still makes sense.
  8. Repeat for two of three more examples. Remember to add in  few where the transposition doesn’t make sense and discuss these with the children.

huff and puff
wiggle and giggle

Verb Box 3:

  1. Introduce the prepared cards in Verb Box 3
  2. Have a child choose a card, read it and act it out and then symbolize the action words on the card.
  3. Repeat for each child.
  4. Repeat until all the cards have been done.

Exercice 1

The children can work with Verb Box 3 and symbols on their own

Exercice 2

They can make a booklet of list of the words.

Material

- Supply tray

- Verb Box 4

Presentation

Written Slips

  5. Cut the action words and noun and switch their places.
  6. Have each child read this new phrase and see if it makes sense.

  8. Repeat for two or three more examples.

beat the eggs and whip the cream
rub your tummy and pat your head                
dust a table and sweep the floor
wash you fingers and trace a letter

  1. Introduce the prepared cards in Verb Box 5.
  2. Have a child choose a card, read it and act it out and then symbolize the action words on the card.
  3. Repeat for each child.
  4. Repeat until all the cards have been done.
